A competent security operator informed Vanguard in Abuja that the DSS, working with sister security agencies, carried out the activities that resulted in the arrest of the renowned IPoB commander in Ebonyi state.
The source, however, declined to reveal the identity of the arrested IPoB commander, stating that he was being investigated and will be revealed later.
The operative stated that the IPoB commander was apprehended based on credible intelligence that he was actively recruiting mercenaries in preparation for a big attack on Ebonyi and other South Eastern states.
According to the source, 600 rounds of 5.56 mm ammo, along with other hazardous armaments, were found from the legendary IPoB fighter.
The top operator stated: “On September 9, 2024, a joint team of the DSS and the military detained a high-profile commander of the outlawed IPOB. The arrest was based on intelligence that confirmed his active role in coordinating IPOB actions in Ebonyi State.The jailed leader had hired other mercenaries to prepare for future attacks in Ebonyi State.
Aside from that, the operative stated that, based on solid intelligence, the service coordinated with the NAF and sister agencies to descend on Boko Haram terrorists and bandits who had jointly invaded Bassa-Kukoki village in Allawa district of Shiroro Local Government of Niger on Wednesday.
The source stated that while several terrorists and bandits were killed in the operation, three members of the community were killed by fleeing bandits, and that no security personnel were killed.
The announcement followed another operation by DSS agents from the Delta State command, which resulted in the interception of a wooden barge carrying approximately 37,000 barrels of crude oil.
According to the senior source, five suspects involved in the event were also apprehended during the operation and are being probed and profiled for possible prosecution.
The anonymous source vowed that the DSS would work with sister agencies to address growing threats to national security, and that terrorists and other mercenaries would not be allowed to sow havoc in the country.
