PDP leaders from the Edo South senatorial district convened in Benin City Wednesday to devise and implement plans aimed at guaranteeing the party’s victory in the senatorial district’s September 21 governorship race.
With almost 52% of the state’s registered voters, Edo South is the largest senatorial district in Edo. As things are, the zone will serve as the electoral battlefield.
The meeting’s leaders declared that they had determined the causes of the Labour Party’s shocking performance in the 2023 presidential election and were taking action to address them, as described by Eric Osayande, the chairman of the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. As a result, they hoped to prevent a repeat of the incident.
Among the leaders present at the Edo South Strategic Leadership conference were Senatorial Woman Leader Pat West-Erhabor, Dr. Joan Oviawe, Owere Dickson Imasogie, Chris Agbonmwanegbe, and Professor Dennis Agbonlahor. They said that Osarodion Ogie, the party’s running mate, and Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the party’s nominee, were both electable and would help them win.
They also decided that since there is just one PDP and no Legacy faction or other faction, there cannot be any separation inside the party.
Shortly after the meeting, West-Erhabor made the following statement to reporters: “We have decided to return the elections to the units because that is where elections are won and lost.” Everyone needs to return to their units and … begin the mobilization from there in order for us to ultimately succeed in winning this election, as it will be exceedingly challenging to win without the units.
Additionally, Dr. Larry Ogieva stated: “We have come to strategize and from what we have seen here, PDP members in the Edo South Senatorial District have a common goal. We are more resolute, determined, and focused, and we are confident that PDP will win the election on September 21.” We are sick and weary of the federal government, led by the APC, forcing the people to live in poverty, famine, unaffordable fuel, and the inability to pay for basic necessities.
“We are very confident that we have a sellable candidate,” stated Dickson Imasogie, the party’s senatorial leader. “We are mandating every local government to work; anyone that returns less than 70% will be regarded as a failure.”
