According to Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire that destroyed the Christ Embassy Church in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, has been contained.
The structure caught fire, according to a report from Punch Online earlier on Sunday. LSFRS officials were also said to be present at the location in order to extinguish the fire.
Adeseye gave an update on the situation in a statement on Sunday and said that no injuries had been reported.
“A fire outbreak was reported at the Christ Embassy Church located on Billings Way, Ikeja at 07:27 hours,” the writer stated.
“Ikeja and Alausa fire stations immediately despatched firefighting units, and by 07:36 hours, they were on the site. They discovered the church auditorium completely destroyed by fire. Right now, the fire is under control.
To make sure the fire is totally put out, Adeseye said, some portions of the building have been torn down.
“In addition, to ensure total extinguishment and to prevent further structural collapse, some parts of the building are being pulled down using LASEMA’s excavator,” the speaker continued.
“Investigations are being conducted to discover the cause of the fire, which has not yet been identified.
As of right now, no casualties have been recorded. We’ll keep you informed when further details become available.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder and president of LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as Christ Embassy, has stated that the fire catastrophe was not an accident but rather a gateway to greater and better things.
