Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has issued a directive for the urgent restoration of electricity in the aftermath of a destructive rainstorm that wreaked havoc in the Obubra local government area.
The storm, which struck Ogada 2 on Tuesday evening, resulted in the destruction of over forty-five electrical poles and multiple transformers, leaving residents in a state of distress and darkness.
Mr. Francis Ekpo, the Director General of the State Electrification Agency (SEA), recounted the severity of the situation, emphasizing the immediate need for action.
Ekpo, acting upon Governor Otu’s instructions, swiftly assessed the damage firsthand, describing the scene as “devastating” and affirming the government’s commitment to addressing the crisis.
Governor Otu, recognizing the dire circumstances faced by the residents of Ogada 2 and surrounding areas in the wake of the devastating rainstorm, emphasizes the fundamental obligation of the government to act swiftly in times of crisis. With empathy for the plight of those affected, Governor Otu stressed the paramount importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.
In his acknowledgement of the challenges confronting the community, Governor Otu reaffirms;
“Government is committed to serving you, particularly during times of adversity like this. It is our duty to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, which is a demonstration of our steadfastness and dedication to addressing the immediate needs of those impacted by natural disasters and other issues”
In line with this commitment, Governor Otu instructed Ekpo to engage with the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) to expedite the replacement of damaged infrastructure and restore power to the affected areas without delay.
The directive aims to alleviate the hardship experienced by the residents of Ogada 2 and surrounding areas, ensuring their access to essential services and restoring normalcy to their lives.
The State Electrification Agency is now working tirelessly to coordinate efforts with PHED to expedite the restoration process and provide relief to the affected communities.
