Adetunji Obatayo, a pastor, has been placed under detention in prison by an Ondo State Family Court after he sexually assaulted his foster daughter and obtained an abortion for her three times.
According to the information acquired, the victim moved live with the defendant in 2020 after her parents gave her up to the pastor.
The victim, a 14-year-old, goes to the school where Obatayo serves as principal.
The victim told her parents about her sexual contact with the priest, and the men of the state police command took the 55-year-old defendant into custody.
Later, he was accused of three instances of defilement and illegal medicine prescriptions intended to obtain abortions, murdering an unborn child.
The charge stated that the offenses violated Sections 218, 230, and 328 of the Ondo State 2006 Criminal Laws.
The victim said in court during the hearing that Obatayo had been having sex with her ever since she moved home with him when she was ten years old.
“My parents let me live with the pastor because he wanted to train me,” the woman stated. He had sexual relations with me against my will on the first day I was in his home, and he instructed me not to tell anyone.
“After several preventive medications, he had pregnant me three times and given me N5,000 to buy some contraceptive pills to end the pregnancy. However, he wouldn’t give me the money I needed to buy the medication with the third pregnancy, so I had to steal it.
“The boy in our school was arrested after the pastor accused me of stealing his money for my boyfriend, and I told my parents about his ordeal.”
The defendant was placed under detention at the Olokuta Correctional Center by magistrate B.A. Alphonso, who also instructed the case file to be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for guidance.
The court postponed the case until August 29, 2024, for mention and directed that the victim be taken for rehabilitation.
