Flights are canceled due to power failure, leaving passengers stuck at Manchester airport

A power failure at Manchester Airport has caused thousands of travelers to experience delays and cancellations of flights, bringing the main UK airport to a complete halt.

According to PUNCH Online, the airport, #manairport, revealed this on X in a statement on Sunday.

The two-phased update was titled, “Information for Passengers Power Outage: Update.”

The Manchester Airport’s management reported that Terminals 1 and 2 were the most severely damaged structures, while Terminal 3 was still operational albeit with potential delays.

“Passengers scheduled to travel from Terminals 1 and 2 are advised to contact their airline before arriving to the airport as many flights are likely to be canceled following the power outage that affected Manchester Airport and the surrounding area earlier this morning.

“We are working to get those passengers who are already at the airport onto flights as soon as possible now that the power has been restored.”

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this has brought about. Along with our airline colleagues, our customer service and resilience teams are working hard to keep travelers in the airport informed.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused, and we will work quickly to get normal service back.”

Social media users are outraged by the occurrence, according to PUNCH Online.

“Utter disgrace, the airport should have backup systems/generators for this sort of scenario,” commented one commenter. Be prepared for the unexpected.

“This airport requires significant investment and is generally in disarray. I fail to understand how a T1 toilet clog could be caused by a power outage. The management ought to step down.

A Manchester Airport representative stated in the interim that “a significant number of flights today are likely to be cancelled.”

“Passengers planning to travel today are advised not to arrive at the airport without first confirming with their airline.”
