A 13-year-old suspect in the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Gombe State’s Akko Local Government Area was paraded by the Gombe State Police Command on Friday.
Additionally, Usman Husseini, 18, and Mohammed Yaya, 45, were paraded by the police for allegedly defiling their victims on several occasions.
At a news conference held at the command’s headquarters in Gombe, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, stated that the 13-year-old suspect had led the victim to a desolate route where he had his way.
He stated, “A formal complaint was received at Akko Division on May 24, 2024, alleging that on May 22, 2024, the suspect had knowledge of the whereabouts of an eight-year-old girl and had dragged her to a corner.”

“One Musa Saleh of the Hammadu-kafi quarters in Gombe filed an official complaint on May 26, 2024, alleging that Husseini had dragged his 4-year-old daughter to a location close to his home and poked his finger inside her private area.
Detectives from Pantami Division responded quickly to the site after receiving the complaint, apprehending the mentioned suspect and transporting the victim to a specialist for a medical checkup. The matter is still being investigated, and when it is finished, charges will be brought before the court.
According to Abdullahi, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by Yaya from Tumu Akko Local Government Area in Gombe after she was offered N100 and N50 on two separate occasions.
He said, “On the 27th of May 2024 the suspect lured a 10-year-old girl into his house and had canal knowledge with her. Upon preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to having carried out the act on two separate occasions. He disclosed that he gave her 100 and 50 naira respectively. The case is under investigation and will soon be charged to court for prosecution.”
Commenting on the implementation of the Child Protection policy in the state, Abdullahi said “Issue of rape has serious attention of the government. The Department of Public Prosecutions is taking it up on itself to tackle rape and other forms of abuses.”
