The Federal Polytechnic Ede administration in Osun State has declared the expulsion of 27 students due to their purported involvement in a campus demonstration that resulted in property vandalism.
It had previously been reported that on Thursday, May 9, 2024, some polytechnic students stormed the campus and staged a violent protest because they were upset that members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arrested some of their colleagues during a nighttime raid in the community of Owode, which is close to Ede.
The polytechnic Staff Club was attacked during the demonstration, and demonstrators also caused damage to a number of cars.
When contacted for comment following the protest, the institution’s public relations officer, Mr. Sola Lawal, stated that the administration would look into and determine the incident’s immediate and distant cause.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Tuesday, Lawal revealed the investigation’s findings. In addition to the 27 expelled students, two former student union leaders were prohibited from accessing the polytechnic campus, and eight other students were suspended for two academic terms.

Eight (8) students were suspended for two (2) academic sessions, and 27 students were expelled (HND 1 & 2). With immediate effect, entry into the campus was prohibited for two (2) previous leaders of the student union.
