The Osun Amotekun Corps has apprehended Tajudeen Ridwan, an ex-convict, for stealing electronic gadgets from a mosque in the Isale Osun Area of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.
According to a statement acquired in Osogbo on Friday by Idowu Yusuf, the spokesperson for Amotekun Corps in Osun, Ridwan, 30, was convicted of offenses that bordered on theft and served a four-year jail sentence before being freed from a detention center in March.
Before Amotekun agents were called, some worshippers apparently caught the culprit in the act.
Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), the Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, commented on the arrest and stated that the suspect had dressed like a worshipper in order to take advantage of the opportunity to steal an amplifier that was being used to call believers to prayer.
He went on, “After morning prayer, he was captured, supposing that everyone had left the mosque. However, he was caught off guard when some worshipers noticed him putting the electronic musical amplifier in a bag.
“When Amotekun Osogbo Command was alerted to the incident, the agents moved quickly to arrest the criminal there and then.
“After a preliminary investigation, he admitted to being a convicted felon who had served his four-year prison sentence for the same offense in March of this year.”
According to Adewinbi, the suspect has been turned over to the police for more questioning and possible legal action.
