In order to combine the resources of both ministries to solve the issues of inflation and food security, the Federal Government claims to have established the Agriculture and Water Resources Joint Action Committee.
Sen. Aliyu Abdullahi, the Minister of State for Agriculture, revealed this information on Thursday in Abuja during the National Youth Convention.
The Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progressive and Development Initiative was in charge of organizing the event.
According to Abdullahi, President Bola Tinubu’s vision for food security is what the project is intended to further.
He stated that the country’s more than 200 million inhabitants could not be fed if it relied only on agriculture during the six-month rainy season, which is why the government has started dry-seeding farming.
He claims that the collaboration exists specifically to promote year-round farming.
In order to maintain food security and self-sufficiency, he claimed that the nation’s numerous river-basin development authority and copious water resources should be used for year-round cultivation.
“The Agriculture and Water Resource Joint Action Committee has been approved. Its purpose is to examine food security so that we can begin dry-season farming in the majority of the river basins.
“We intend to investigate how the two ministries can work together with the River Basin Development Authorities, bringing in agricultural specialists to improve farmer livelihoods, boost output, and encourage involvement from the private sector and young people.”
“The Ministry of Water Resources contributes significant resources to the collaboration, including as land, water resources, and technical know-how; collectively, we hope to maximize our efforts, which supply the seeds, inputs, and agricultural equipment necessary for food production.
“At the moment, we are collaborating with every farmer in those regions and making sure that the obstacles preventing them from taking advantage of the opportunities there are eliminated.
He declared, “This will allow us to maximize the benefit of these resources that God has given us.”
The minister acknowledged that there has been recent flooding in a few federation states and named the threat as one of the effects of climate change.
He claims that the ministry’s answer is to guarantee that dry-season farming endures because it allows for greater control over watering, planting selection, and planting technique.
The minister stated that the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda was centered on the future and that the younger generation should, in fact, own the future.
