In a way of giving back to his Federal Constituency, the former Chairman of Abi L. G. A & the Frontline candidate of the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) for Abi / Yakkurr Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2023 Elections, Rt. Hon. Eko Atu on Saturday, 24th December 2022 met with his people to celebrate Christmas, which marks the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He encouraged the people to pray for a better Abi / Yakkurr Federal Constituency, expecially with the recent epidemic that claimed scores of lives at Ekureku.
He prays such an occurrence won’t happen again.
His medical intervention & other concerned Leaders have helped cushion the effect in the affected communities.
Eko Atu was in company with the front line Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) in Cross River Central, Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa & other leaders of the party & stakeholders.
They used the opportunity to distribute cash, food stuff & other relieve materials to Constituents.
Gratitude as we know, creates a philanthropic heart but true philanthropists seek to make a difference in thier service to God & humanity.
No wonder, Rt.Hon. Eko Atu has been able to demonstrate as a good leader by listening to the ideas, needs, aspirations, and wishes of his followers since he joined politics.

He is the frontline PDP candidate for Abi /Yakurr Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2023 General elections.

At Community Secondary School, Itigidi, Abi Local Government Area, he was Assistant Labour Prefect.
When he proceeded to the University of Calabar, he became the President of Nigeria Sociological and Anthropological Students Association(NSASA).
He was also the President of Students Union Government (SUG) at the University of Calabar ( UNICAL).
During his one year compulsory service to the Nation, he was a State Awardee & Corper Liaison Officer(CLO) in Danja LGA, Katsina State.
After his Youth Service, he plunged into Politics & was elected as Councilor of Itigidi Council ward under the Zero Party.
He later became Vice-Chairman & Supervisory Councillor for Education in Abi Local Government Area.
Rt.Hon. Eko Atu’s political profile kept rising & became elected Chairman of Abi Local Government Area.
He served his people meritoriously with very clean records, was able to promote popular leadership through his hardwork & excellence.
As Chairman of Abi L. G. A, his achievements were:
Construction of a modern health Centre in Afafanyi, Afafanyi/Igonigoni Council ward.
He Laid the foundation for the Community Secondary school, Ikpalegwe with a donation of 100 bags of cement to kick-start the construction of the school.
He Constructed a 16 room modern guest house within the council premises in Itigidi.
Payment of bursary to undergraduates of Abi LGA students in tertiary institutions.
Distribution of desks and exercise books to primary schools across the LGA.
Installation of street lights in Itigidi headquarters of Abi LGA.
Construction of LT lines within Itigidi and provision of electricity to newly developed parts of the town.
Renovation of health center in Ngarabe Community in Ekureku ward 2.
Purchase and installation of 2No. 60hp Yamaha engine to power the Adadama ferry which operated then between Adadama and Ekori.
Funded various projects in all the council wards identified by Councillors as constituency projects.
As a result of his hard work, Rt.Hon. Eko Atu after his tenure as Chairman of Abi Local Government Area was later appointed Director-General, Cross River State Rural Development Agency(RUDA).
As DG of RUDA, he achieved an unprecedented milestone in rural roads development in Cross River State.
RUDA under Rt.Hon. Atu achieved the construction of 530km of roads with 11 bridges across 16 LGA in Cross River under the Imoke’s administration.
As a recognition of his zeal in supporting the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Rt.Hon. Atu in 2011 was sponsored to an international learning exchange in India by UNICEF.
Under his watch, Yakurr LG was the first to be certified Open Defecation Free (ODF) LG in Nigeria.
Due to Rt.Hon. Eko Atu’s commitment to the WASH sector, he was honored as a Sanitation Ambassador by UNICEF.
Rt.Hon Eko Atu’s contributions to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been very visible and has attracted commendation from various organs of the Party, at all cost.
He has remained committed and resolute in all activities of the party, taking up State and National assignments for the betterment of the party.
Rt.Hon. Eko Atu has Served in the following capacities :
-Member, Anambra Gubernatorial Primaries under Gov. Suswam.
-Member, PDP Appeal Panel for Ward & LG Congresses under the chairmanship of Senate minority Leader, Senator Abaribe.
He was also appointed Secretary of the PDP Cross River state Caretaker Committee following the defection of Gov. Ayade to APC.
The committee worked tirelessly & birthed the present State Executive of the Party.
