Put an end to the protest against lousy governance: Northern youth group leaves, citing national security

Citing concerns for national security and peace, the Northern Youth Alliance for Good government (NYAG) has withdrawn from the scheduled statewide protest against terrible government.

It claimed that extensive discussions on the probable outcomes of the protest with its leaders and members preceded the decision-making process.

NYAG’s National Coordinator, Abdullahi Usman, briefed reporters in Abuja about the organization’s dedication to the welfare of Nigerians.

In his own words: “We invited you to this location today in relation to the planned demonstration, which is set to commence on August 1, 2024.

In an effort to get the government to pay notice to the immense suffering of ordinary Nigerians, the Northern Youth Alliance for Good Governance, or NYAG, has been actively involved in organizing Nigerians nationwide to participate in the aforementioned demonstration.

But we would like to let the public know that after extensive deliberation among our members, we have decided against moving forward with the demonstration in order to protect our integrity and Nigeria’s national peace and security, all of which we consider to be of the utmost importance. Thus, NYAG is urging all Nigerians to value communication.

We have learned that several political factions intend to appropriate our demonstration and utilize it to further their own self-serving political objectives. They want to turn the intended nonviolent protest into a riot, which could worsen the situation in Nigeria and show that there are desperate individuals who would defend looting and destroying businesses and public property. The NYAF will not support any such harmful and self-centered program.

Therefore, we urge all Nigerians to engage in dialogue and urge the government to bring all relevant parties together for a thorough conversation aimed at putting an end to the unending suffering that Nigerians endure. To improve the existing state of affairs for Nigerians, more work and action must be done. We feel that all well-meaning Nigerians should support President Tinubu since he is dedicated to the ongoing reforms.

Millions of our young people in the North will go back to farming as soon as the security situation is under control.

“NYAG is still dedicated to promoting the welfare and well-being of Nigerians as well as the overall peace and security of Nigeria.” Any violent protests are strongly discouraged. We are in favor of conversation.
