Edo poll: Oshiomhole and others kick off their campaigns today

In preparation for the September 21 election, the All Progressives Congress’s candidate for governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, will launch his electioneering campaign today (Tuesday) with the support of former governor Adams Oshiomhole, the reinstated deputy governor Philip Shaibu, and other powerful members of the political establishment.

In a Monday exclusive phone conversation with PUNCH Online, Jarret Tenebe, the chairman of the Edo APC, verified this.

Tenebe continued, saying that on Wednesday, the campaign train will arrive at Edo Central, where they intend to interact with local voters and stakeholders.
“We are kick-starting our campaign from tomorrow and he will be addressing many people. After tomorrow, he will be in Edo Central to also address the people along with our party bigwigs.

“People like Adams Oshiomhole, the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu and others are already in town,” he said.

Prominent figures who are anticipated to attend the campaign tomorrow include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Cross River Governor Bassey Out, who is also the chairman of the campaign train; and Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina, who is co-chairman.
Other notable figures included Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation; Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun; Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos; and other governors chosen on the APC platform.
In contrast to the rumors being spread by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, Tenebe also informed our reporter that their candidate has not been avoiding town hall meetings and debates as a means of engaging with the public.
The APC chairman claimed that the PDP had used it as a diversionary strategy to divert attention away from their camp.
He said, “It is not true. I told you earlier that we have not received any proposal or letter inviting Okpebholo to any debate. Our candidate, Okpebholo has been reaching out to people in the state. He has been in different fora since the beginning of his campaign.
